A Sporting Chance – Koodu Sports Day Event

The Koodu Social Education and Rural Development Trust, established in 2005, has been empowering marginalized communities for 19 years. Their focus is on student education, particularly for tribals, scheduled castes/tribes, Sri Lankan repatriates, and students from underprivileged backgrounds in Cherangode Panchayat, Nelliyalam Municipality, and Pandalur Taluk (Nilgiris district).

The trust currently supports around 285 students (152 boys and 133 girls) across twelve centers. Twelve dedicated tutors guide these students in their academic journey. To promote their athletic abilities, the trust recently organized its first annual sports day. Participants received pens and safe transportation to and from the event. The day was filled with fun games and prizes for all students.

Inauguration

The event commenced with a rousing rendition of the Tamil Thai Valthu by students from the Koodu SDC Centre, a display of pride in their cultural heritage.

Dr. K.J. marked the inaugural year of the sports day and expressed his hope for its continuation. He highlighted the positive impact of the SDC program on students and shared future plans, including women’s empowerment initiatives and establishing kitchen gardens. He also mentioned a decrease in student screen time due to the program’s activities. He expressed gratitude to Little Drops Charity Trust for their partnership in this life-changing project.
