The Official Charity Track

We are incredibly grateful to artist Alan Gregory, soloist Rebecca and sound engineer and guitarist James for creating a beautiful original track for our cause. During the upcoming Shravana 2026 event, Rebecca will sing live while Alan and James will perform the final two lines of the chorus in British Sign Language (BSL). They will also teach the audience how to sign along so that we may all join in the joyous performance.

A Thank You For Your Support

Read the lyrics

Chorus
If you could only watch me speak, you’d hear my voice,
And for you, of course, that still remains a choice.
You’re ready, use your hands to illustrate,
Or emphasize your point in a debate.
So if you really seek to know the life that’s mine,
Choose more than words and offer me a sign.

You’re ready, use your hands to say so much,
A sharp rebuke, dismissive wave or gentle touch.
Just as you employ help, your meaning clear,
But for me such signs become the voice you hear.

(Chorus)

A tiny village in the hills is where I live,
Relying on relief that strangers deign to give.
Do you believe that I deserve a world so small?
Should I be allowed a chance, well, that’s your call.

(Chorus)

The Inspiration Behind the Music

We spoke with the track’s creator, Alan Gregory, about what moved him to write the song and his connection to the Shravana project:

“I became involved with Little Drops after Karen introduced me to the charity and I learned about Dr Vijay Pothula’s Shravana project for deaf and hard-of-hearing children in India. The cause connected with work already under way at Pianos, Pies and Pirouettes: our See Me Speak – Hear My Voice project, which grew from a simple question—why should the responsibility for communication always fall on Deaf people?

“Sharon and Sarah, two profoundly Deaf women who asked me if I’d be willing to teach them piano, as no other teacher they had approached would, helped bring that question to life through their experiences. So did Cat, a hearing maths teacher who was learning BSL to communicate better with Deaf students. When Cat’s lessons with her profoundly Deaf teacher ended after local provision at Wigan & Leigh College was withdrawn, I saw how easily the chance to learn and communicate can disappear—even here in Britain.

“It made me think about how much harder life may be for a deaf child in an impoverished Indian village, where deafness can carry social stigma or be treated as a taboo. Children may be shut out of education and communication, neglected, and made more vulnerable to abuse; without an effective way to communicate, asking for help can be harder too.

“That is what moved me to write the song. I want people to hear the child’s voice in it, feel the distance created by communication barriers, and recognise that the child is not voiceless: the rest of us have to learn to listen. The recording supports Little Drops’ fundraising for Shravana and is shared as a thank-you to supporters. I hope it leaves people with empathy and a sense of responsibility—not pity.”

Why Your Support Matters

Imagine growing up unable to clearly hear the sounds around you, your teacher in a classroom, or your mother’s voice. Untreated childhood hearing loss creates significant barriers to speech and language development, social interaction, psychological wellbeing, and future economic opportunities.

By supporting Shravana—a project championed by the Little Drops Charity Trust—you are helping provide crucial interventions for these children. Depending on a child’s specific needs, this support funds early identification, hearing aids, cochlear implants, rehabilitation, sign language education, and medical or surgical treatments.
