Covid Crisis Rescue

Dharmapuri Project

The Arunthathiyar community is a socially, educationally, culturally and economically deprived community. They are depending on footwear repairing and polishing the shoes in employment aspects through which they can earn Rs. 60 to 80per day as wages. Out of which, about Rs. 30-45, they spend on country liquor and alcoholic consumption. In Hinduism, Arunthathiyar is a low caste in social aspects and so they are isolated from the mother villages.

How We Helped

Conducting six village meetings in ten villages

The volunteers would conduct village meetings once in two months to address the health issues and problems in the concerned villages. In each meeting, the doctors, Nurses and Health faculties would be invited and addressed on special topics to improve and to make follow the hygienic health methods in the villages.

Orientation to Parents on Children Education

Arunthathiyar community would not give importance to the school education. So they need orientation to address the education rights of the children.

Little Drops works with a local NGO called Grace Vision Centre(GVC) Their main beneficiary target group is Dalits, Tribes. Rev Manoharan is in charge of all the practical aspects.

Keeping Students Connected

How We Helped

Students received a mobile phone with one year of data and a power bank. These devices enabled students to use wifi in order to access the Internet and attend online classes.

With the Covid crisis worsening in India, schools have been forced to close their doors and move exclusively to online teaching. For many rural students, the internet is difficult to access, if not impossible, this means the move to online teaching threatens their access to education altogether. Little Drops sees access to education as a right and has stepped in to ensure students can continue their education online.
