Celebrating 20 Years of Impact: KOODU Annual Day, Cultural Events & Study Kit Distribution 2025

A Joyous Milestone

On May 31st, 2025, Koodu Social Education and Rural Development Trust celebrated its 20th Annual Day with pride and joy. The event brought together an enthusiastic gathering of chief guests, volunteers, tutors, parents, and students, all united to honour KOODU’s continued efforts in education and community development.

Welcome Address

 

Mrs. Kasthuri, a dedicated KOODU tutor, warmly welcomed everyone to this milestone event, celebrating two decades of dedication to rural development and education.

Opening Ceremony

Prayer Song

The event began with a heartfelt prayer song, guided by Mrs. Maheswari from Boothanakunnu and beautifully performed by Pradeepha K., Lazhini J., Ananya R., and Vidula P. Their harmonious voices set the tone for the celebration, filling the space with unity and warmth.

Lighting the Lamp

The official inauguration started with the traditional lighting of the lamp, led by our esteemed guests:

Our guests shared words of encouragement, reflections, and stories of impact:

  • Mr. Radhakrishnan (Agriculture Scientist) shared his 10-year journey with KOODU, calling it one of the most trustworthy organisations in the Nilgiris.

  • Mr. Swaminathan (Retired Headmaster) praised KOODU for its influence on students from his school attending KOODU’s Rockwood SDC.

  • Mrs. Maniammal (Headmistress, Attikunna) expressed deep gratitude for KOODU’s role in empowering children through education and cultural initiatives.

  • Mr. Rintu Yacob (Sustainability Manager, Olam Food Ingredients) sponsored study kits for 461 students, encouraging them to pursue their dreams confidently.

  • Mr. Shiju (Teacher, Bharat Mata School) highlighted the boost in student confidence and performance thanks to KOODU’s programs.

  • Mrs. Gnanasundari (Teacher, PUPS, Kayyunni) thanked KOODU for consistent encouragement and educational support.

  • Mr. Sriram Peniquick (MSW Student, American College) shared how volunteering with KOODU was an enriching, eye-opening experience.

  • Prof. Noorul Hasan (Islamiah Boys HSS) commended KOODU’s work in remote areas after volunteering for 10 days.

  • Mr. Joseph (Teacher, PUPS, Kayyunni) noted visible improvement in student enthusiasm and learning.

  • Ms. Rasida (MSW Student, Madras Christian College) shared her inspiring journey from a tribal village to higher education—made possible through KOODU’s mentorship and support.

  • Mr. Babu John (KOODU Advisory Member) reflected on the real and lasting changes KOODU has brought to rural communities.

Director's Note

In his address, Dr. K.J. Sunny, Director of KOODU, expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported KOODU’s 20-year journey. He acknowledged the invaluable role of staff, volunteers, and community members in helping the organisation thrive.

Cultural Performances by Students

The stage came alive with performances full of spirit, colour, and talent. Highlights included:

Speeches

  • Yaazhini gave an insightful talk on Environment Protection, coordinated by Mrs. Kasthuri S.

  • Dhanika P. delivered an inspiring speech about Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, guided by Mrs. Sharmila K.

Songs

  • “Mother Song” by Hemanth Raj S., mentored by Mrs. Manju – a moving performance.

  • Motivational Song by Riswana A., Raihana A., Shifana Jasmine J., Ayisha Meharin P., guided by Mrs. Agnes Rani A. – cheerful and uplifting.

Dances

  • Folk Dances by students from SDC Palavayal (coordinated by Mrs. Sridevi) and others brought energy and cultural pride to the stage.

  • Traditional Dance (coordinated by Mrs. Sangeetha) lit up the stage with colour and grace.

  • Parai Dance by Aravinth S., a solo packed with powerful expression.

  • “Made in India” – a patriotic performance celebrating national pride.

  • Bharatanatyam solo by Dharunika D. – elegant and expressive.

  • Western Dance by Rakisha T., Dharunika D., Shalini N., Arshitha P.S., blending modern flair with traditional rhythm.

  • Women’s tailoring centre

  • Computer training for students

  • Goat distribution for tribal families

  • Smartphone donations to government school students

  • Honey harvesting and income generation for tribal communities

  • Biogas plant setup for farmers

  • Grocery support during the COVID-19 lockdown

  • SDCs for rural students

  • Health and hygiene programs for adolescent girls

  • Relief efforts during the Wayanad floods (2019 and 2024)

Study Kit Distribution (2025–2026)

As part of KOODU’s educational outreach, study kits—including school bags, notebooks, and umbrellas—were distributed to 461 students across 20 Student Development Centres.
